Marrick is a CSH Fellow at the Center for Space and Habitability of the University of Bern. Marrick is fascinated by rocky (exo)planets and the complex chemistry happening in their atmospheres. He uses and develops comprehensive models to describe atmospheric chemistry and elucidate the coupled effects of planetary orbits, climates, photochemistry, electrical processes, and atmospheric dynamics. Through this, Marrick aims to contribute to the broader efforts to understand exoplanet habitability: Which exoplanets might support life? Could these exoplanet environments foster the formation of prebiotic compounds? And what molecules can we detect with current and future observatories, and what do they reveal about these distant worlds? For the observational aspect, Marrick co-leads the Science Community of the Large Interferometer For Exoplanets (LIFE) Space Mission, designed to search for life outside the solar system and investigate the diversity of other worlds.
